Hydroelectricity
Hydroelectricity comes from flowing water, which turns turbines to generate electricity. Output relies on water flow and can be impacted by low water.
Hydro is a primary source of power and represents 74% of the NTPC’s total generation.
Hydro power is a renewable source of power generation that is highly reliable and has a low environmental impact. The cost is considered medium as it requires a lot of infrastructure to build
it; however once it is built it can last for decades.
3 Hydroelectric systems
There are 7 hydro plants, 4 located at Snare, 1 at Taltson and 2 at Bluefish. These plants generate power for Yellowknife, Behchoko, Dettah, Fort Smith, Fort Resolution, Hay River and Enterprise.
