A new type of protective device, called a TripSaver, was installed on the distribution line to Dettah recently. This device allows for instantaneous tripping and reclosing for momentary faults. It is less expensive than a line recloser and it is also possible for it to be installed in an existing cut-out switch. The potential usefulness of this device on NTPC's system was identified by Power Lineperson Deaon Hope.
